REPORT: AFC Burnley 3 Accrington Amateurs 2
AFC Burnley came out on top in a five-goal thriller against Accrington Amateurs at the Stanley Sports Hub.
Dean Hardy, Danny Carter and Jordan Darwin all got on the scoresheet for the hosts.
The visitors took an early lead thanks to a clever lob over Shane Hudson, but Burnley hit back immediately through Hardy’s emphatic penalty.
And the hosts went in front when Carter found the bottom corner with a ruthless strike after some good work from Matty Ashworth.
Hudson then made a fine save to keep out a deflected shot before Hardy went close at the other end.
Early in the second half, the Burnley No 1 made another smart stop low to his left after a dangerous Accrington attack.
But there was nothing he could do when the visitors drew level from the spot moments later.
Jordan Balmbra was then denied by a fine save from the Accrington goalkeeper after cutting in from the left wing.
Jonny Carlin also went close after some good hold-up play, but the forward was denied by the side netting.
But the hosts refused to give up and their pressure paid off when Darwin beat his man and fired home with 10 minutes to go.
Sean Horrock’s men continue their pre-season preparations when they head to Peel Park next Saturday (KO 2pm).
