REPORT: Padiham 5 AFC Burnley 1
AFC Burnley were left ruing a harsh red card after an impressive first-half display at Padiham.
Burnley got off to a dream start when Mark Taylor headed home after some good work by Sohaib Ahmed on the left flank.
And the visitors nearly had a second when the Padiham goalkeeper made a fine save to deny Josh Cook from close range.
The hosts got back on level terms midway through the first half thanks to a swerving strike from the edge of the area.
Padiham then had the ball in the back of the net, but Burnley were saved by the offside flag.
Shane Hudson was sent off for handling outside the box early in the second half, with Dean Hardy taking his place in goal.
The hosts were denied by the woodwork from the resulting free kick.
But Padiham made the most of their man advantage, scoring three times in a ruthless 12-minute spell.
Hardy then made a fine stop to keep out a dipping effort from distance, but there was nothing he could do when the hosts added a fifth late on.
Sean Horrock’s men are back in action on Thursday evening when they face Chorley Under-21s at the Stanley Sports Hub (KO 19:15).
