REPORT: Saddleworth 3 AFC Burnley 3
AFC Burnley came back from three goals down to earn a point at Saddleworth on the opening day.
Jonny Carlin, Connolly Steen and Wez Hensby were all on target in a spirited second-half display.
The first chance fell to a Saddleworth forward who headed over after a dangerous attack down the right flank.
Dean Hardy then fired wide from the edge of the area after Brad Miller had done well to win back possession.
Steen was lively throughout the first half and almost opened the scoring when his effort cannoned off the post.
But the hosts hit a quickfire double on the verge of half-time, first with a cool finish from close range and then a bullet header from a corner.
After the break, substitute Jonny Carlin missed the target after meeting Hensby’s inviting corner.
And Saddleworth added a third just before the hour-mark with a well-struck volley.
Burnley had a mountain to climb but were given hope when Carlin won the ball high up the pitch and fired home.
And Steen got on the scoresheet moments later after slotting past the goalkeeper from a tight angle.
Hensby completed the comeback midway through the second half with a composed finish after a surging run from deep.
Saddleworth then struck the post, before Carlin and Mark Taylor missed big chances for the visitors.
Inside the final five minutes, Burnley were caught on the break but Ethan Carroll made a fine stop to keep the scores level.
