REPORT: AFC Burnley 1 Jogabola 1 (2-4 on pens)
AFC Burnley missed out on a place in the Lancashire Amateur League Cup final after a cruel defeat on penalties at the Stanley Sports Hub.
Richard Cowan’s early goal wasn’t enough as Sean Horrocks’ men were left ruing missed chances.
Cowan opened the scoring after just six minutes with a towering header from Aaran Smith’s inviting corner.
But the visitors hit back immediately with a scrappy goal after Burnley had failed to deal with a set-piece.
Daniel Jackson then saw his header cleared off the line before Josh Cook was denied by the woodwork.
On the verge of half time, a Jogabola forward blazed over the bar after a dangerous counter attack.
Early in the second half, Dean Hardy made a couple of fine stops from close range to keep the scores level.
Danny Maymond and Jonny Carlin both went close at the other end as both teams went in search of a winner.
The Jogabola goalkeeper made a smart stop to deny Carlin inside the final five minutes, sending the game to a shootout.
Burnley missed their first two penalties while the visitors scored all four of their spot kicks to earn a place in next month’s final.
